Jim SterankoJim Steranko is an American graphic artist, comic book writer/artist, comic book historian, illusionist, publisher, and film production illustrator.
He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1938. His grandparents immigrated from Ukraine to Pennsylvania to work in the small anthracite coal-mining region. Steranko's father, one of nine children, started working in the mines at the age of ten, and, as an adult, became a tinsmith. Jim, one of three children, all boys, lived his early life during the Great Depression in a three room house with a tar-paper roof and outhouse toilet facilities. Jim began drawing when he was very young. He later made flyers for dance clubs and things like this. This developed into making comics for comic book companies. Later, he became a publisher. He made poster work for movies and was interviewed for a documentary about comic books. More recently, he became a philanthropist by making a fund for "victims of anti-American terrorism". It is unsure what he is doing now, but whatever it is, it's probably going to be amazing. |
